PREFACE
In view of the increasing worldwide attention on the global change research and the cooperation among scientists in various fields, the Global Change Research Center (GCRC) was established to gather information, to form consensus, to define research goals, and to become a world-class research center. Therefore, since 1989, great efforts have been made to establish the GCRC. Finally, on June 29, 1991, the proposal of establishing the GCRC was approved in the University-Affair meeting and the Center was officially established in August 1992.

Each Division consists of 5 to 20 faculty members from various departments and institutes. A division head is chosen from faculty members by the director, submitted to the dean of the College of Sciences for the approval of the advisory committee and finally appointed by the president of the NTU.

FUTURE PROSPECT
Concerning the perspective of Global Change Research Center, we should focus on our obligation at present. Our tasks are to complete on-going researches, to promote integrated teamwork research, to enhance educational projects, and to coordinate the international academic exchange between scholars whose efforts are on the subject of global change.
